Birthdays at JUC by NADIA ERUM (AS)

Once in a year this awaited day comes. Some people look forward to it while others moan how boring their day goes. Well, that is not the case here because birthdays at JUC are fun filled and this year we celebrated quite a number of them with love and enthusiasm.

The first celebration was in the café. On the 26th of October Mashal Raheel, our Vice President and Sulaiman. They were presented with a small yummy coffee cake to cut which was brought by Faham and Fahad.

Girls and guys sang the famous ‘Happy Birthday” song and everyone around hooted and clapped. The birthday girl was blushing while the birthday boy was very happy. After which a hundred photos were taken, which is always our favorite thing to do and Mashal’s best friends, Mahnoor and Amna gave her a huge card which had birthday wishes from everyone in college. My job was to keep her busy while they got the card filled. Mashal loved it.

On the 4th of November, Hamza Shahzad and Faham-ul-Haq had their birthday.

Hamza treated his friends, basically the entire science batch in the café with lunch while his friends got him a delicious chocolate cake which was rubbed on people’s faces more than it was eaten. Hahaha.

Faham got a small party in a class room where his friends Ramsha, Shajia, Ayman, Sulaiman, Fahad and Areeba brought a double layered chocolate cake for him which luckily was distributed among many people.

The two birthday boys were wished from everybody and that made the most of their day.

My birthday was on the 6th of November. It was a Saturday and in the week ahead we all had to attend ZABMUN. My friends wished me the best of wishes and my facebook was full of birthday messages. That made my day.

On the 15th of that month, Mahnoor Sharif made the best cake ever for me. It was a coffee cake presented to me as a surprise in the café, along with a colorful chart full of birthday messages from people at college and my friends back from school. Ms. Ayesha did her part in decorating that cake in the morning. A small group of people, AS and A2 mixed, sang the birthday song at the top of their voices while I cut the cake. We all loved it. It was truly the best cake ever. Thank you so much Mahnoor.

Mansoor treated his friends in the café as well. Everybody enjoyed the Biryani and the cake and had a great time sitting on a huge table. It is moments like these that are forever remembered and cherished and friend’s make birthdays beautiful as you can see from the pictures. All smiles!

Zainab Qaizer, our foosball player and Asad Anees, our pianist, both from celebrated their birthday on the 2nd of November. Asad was shy about it while Zainab enjoyed being wished over and over again. Keep that smile up on your face Zainab. We love your dimples!

Mahnoor Ghouri  was also given a pleasant surprise on the 3rd of December. Many people gathered in a room where the candles were lit for her and her best friend Mahnoor Shaikh escorted her in. She loved it when we all hooted upon her entrance and someone sprayed party crackers while she cut the cake and we sang for her. She was undoubtedly very happy and everybody ate that awesome chocolate cake brought by Hashim Iqbal, the JSI (Jinnah Society in charge).  Ms.Ayesha graced us with her presence too.
Recently, Arsala Hameed’s, Fatima Munaf’s and Ayesha Hassan’s birthdays were celebrated. They completely enjoyed themselves at the end of the hall and the birthday girls wore cute birthday caps. Its fun feeling like a child again while you’re actually growing up, isn’t it?

This party had everyone dancing with joy. We really just need a little reason, an excuse rather, to party and when its birthdays, that too with our friends, we like going crazy about it. You just can’t miss an opportunity, can you?

Sir Abdullah’s and Ms. Mehryn’s, our Economics, Business Studies, Accounts and UOL teachers have their birthdays on the 19th and 18th of February. We got two separate cakes for them and almost the whole college was present in the common room when they were called and wished. They both thanked everybody when the birthday song was sung twice. The cakes were simple irresistible.

Our beloved Principal’s birthday falls in the month of September. The AS hadn’t joined college by that time so we missed it. But next year we’re going to make it a blast!

Ah! JUC and birthdays are the right combination!
